Are You a Modern-Day Luddite? Here's Why You Might Want to Be.
Often, we label someone a "Luddite" as if they're opposed to technological progress or yearn for an outdated era. But let's clear a misconception.
Historically, Luddites weren't anti-technology.
You need to understand the context.
For example, In the early 19th century in Nottinghamshire, new machinery operated by unskilled workers compromised the quality of the stocking trade and also left true artisans out of job.
The larger concern was the trade depression during the Napoleonic Wars. Many believed the government could've done more to ease the situation. But didn't.
At first, before the mass machine breaking, workers didn't oppose weaving #automation. Instead, they sought education to adapt to the evolving tech landscape and ensure fair wages.
They wanted better apprenticeship regulations, but faced stark refusals, pushing them to desperation and resulting in property destruction.
The core issue?
It's not the #robots or #AI taking our #jobs. It's about how governments and businesses introduce new #technology.
So, shouldn't we push for a more ethical and responsible approach to AI and #robotics?
Are you up for championing mindful tech integration?
Can we be more successful with our demands than Luddites were?
